Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our Year 5 children enjoy.
During the year the children enjoy a range of texts in English, including extracts from Harry Potter and The Hobbit, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in all aspects of Maths, whilst developing confidence and fluency with their arithmetic. In Science, we delve into the wonders of space, forces, materials, marvellous mixtures, life cycles and reproduction. In History we study a range of exciting tops, including studying the key features of rivers and coasts. We use digital resources to programme and develop our project management skills and write code, using Kodu, in Computing.
A selection of trips, workshops and Wow Days help to bring learning to life. For example, through a trip to the British Museum, an Egyptian Wow Day and a visit to a local Buddhist temple.
One of the highlights of the year is our residential trip to Osmington Bay, where we bring our geographical learning on rivers and coasts to life, during an action-packed visit to Dorset.
Thank you for visiting our page and hope you enjoy seeing what an exciting time we’re having. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher should you have any questions.
