Year 4
Welcome to Year 4
We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic activities and areas of study that our 8 and 9 year old children enjoy.
During the year, the children continue to present their learning in class assemblies and enjoy a range of texts in English, bringing them to life and responding to them through drama, SPaG and writing sessions. The children become more skilled in using and applying the four operations in Maths and learn more about place value through investigations. Children use their science enquiry skills to predict, plan and record observations. Our topics range from teeth to changes of state to habitats. In History, we study The Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings, challenging the credibility of historical sources. In conjunction with our historical topics, our Geography enables us become more familiar with maps and we learn basic orienteering skills. In Computing, we learn to debug programmes and use Scratch to design and create purposeful algorithms.
We have a range of exciting trips and workshops across the year which include a visit to Fishbourne Palace and a visit from an Anglo-Saxon warrior! The children will also participate in swimming lessons this year on Friday afternoons at Guildford Spectrum where they will learn a variety of swim strokes and learn skills of self-rescue and water safety.
Thank you for visiting our page and hope you enjoy seeing what an exciting time we’re having. Should you have any questions at all, please do not hesistate to contact your child's class teacher via the school office.
